Kudos to Dr. Steve Galatas for putting us all at ease by leaving his cell phone in the car and not realizing it until we were ready to check in. A small crisis, and easily resolved, which served well to help all of us remember to pay more attention to what we are doing. Thank you Dr. Galatas :-)
The flight to Paris was uneventful, and the food on the plane surprisingly edible. After a quick dash through the airport, and another round of security, we safely made our connecting flight to Frankfurt, and are now settled in the hotel. Nice rooms, and conveniently located. Pictures to follow, probably after dinner this evening.
Once Dr. Galatas retrieved his phone from his car, we were on our way to Paris. But our destination was Germany. We really did have a pretty long jaunt from one terminal to another at Charles de Gaulle. But that wasn't the highlight. The real highlight was going through security again. After we had acquired six bottles of Dr. Pepper at the Houston as a present for Bernhard in Berlin, we were surprised to find ourselves going through security checks once more in Paris. So, while Dr. Stoehr was singled out to have her carry on bag completely taken apart by security —— she had a carabiner attached to a water bottle —— Dr. Galatas was learning that one simply does not try to carry liquids of any sort onto an inter-European flight.
ReplyDeleteThe flight from Paris to Frankfurt was delightfully comfortable. The weather in Frankfurt, however, left something to be desired, as we found our way through the drizzle from the main train station to our hotel.
After freshening up, the sun appeared, and we spent a pleasant evening relaxing on the patio of a lovely Italian restaurant a mere five minutes from the hotel.
All in all, a good flight, a good start to an exciting journey, and a good meal with new friends in a new city.
