Our first day in Germany was great, long but great. We got off the plane around noon (fact
check) local time, 3 AM Houston time.
Most had slept some, eaten less, and cramped from the long flight. We got the local train passes and moved our
way towards the inter-city trains. On
the train, well half on the train, the group found its first schism. Apparently, Dr. Galatas, Eric, Felicia, and
Tanner thought themselves too cool for the train and decided to take another
one. To no avail, we met back up at the
Frankfurt Haht Banh Hoft (German Spell Check) not 10 minutes later then the
first group got there. We checked into our “Hotel Topas” and went to
our rooms to freshen up for a short time.
Leaving
early afternoon from Hotel Topas we started our initial exploration of the
city. From the outside the Hahf Bahn
Hoft was a beautiful Pho-Warehouse style architecture in stark contrast to the more
luxurious city of Frankfurt. Our deft
tour guide, Mr. Stoure, took us to an open market and released us for 30
minutes to find food. There were a
million different choices and I settled on a wild boar Wurst, butter potatoes,
and a paulmer beir. All delicious
individually, when consumed together, harmonious; the perfect introduction to
Germany!
Our walking
tour took us past the European Central Bank, the Paulskirka (Spelling), a town
square taken out of a picture book, the Mein River and the Iron Bridge, and
generally around the city.
Our dinner
took place as a group just across the street from Hotel Topas. I had water (noted because it costs too much
money not to mention) and lamb chops. It
was absolutely delicious food, good location, and a great opportunity to meet
the other ‘campers’ of our international summer camp.
Then we all
slept, hard, fast, and without recognition of the foreign country outside our
windows.
To sum up day 1; To tired to take it all in, to cool to
forget.
